Throwback Tuesday and an update!

An update before I get into the meat of the post:

Midnight is fine. He doesn't have rabies (obviously, or I would have posted an update when we found out that he did, lots of drama ensuing, yada yada yada). His stitches and the drains came out right on time; he was healing beautifully. He has since then healed fully, and no more fluid has filled the (former) abscess site, so it appears we were entirely successful in draining it, yay! His fur is slowly growing out, so now it simply looks like he has a weirdly colored brown square in his fur instead of a weird grey square edged in brown. Here, have a look:

Someone mowed my cat!

Here's a zoomed out image of said mowed cat.

Cat tax: CAT HUGS!

Okay! Midnight's doing well, he's not dead, he's happy, out of quarantine, and no one has rabies. All in all, a good time was (not) had by all.

On to Throwback Tuesday!

It's not really "Throwback Tuesday" or anything like that, but it's Tuesday and I'm going back to playing an Android game that I logged waaaaaaay too many hours in last year. And that's Zen Koi.

Last year I posted this video (50 minutes long! How did I manage to video myself playing this game for almost an hour?!) of me loving the heck out of Zen Koi and explaining the game.

Immediately, three of my friends became hopelessly addicted (the same three people who watched the video, I bet!). We logged more hours than is good for us in the game. If they're anything like me, about half those hours were either when I was supposed to be trying to go to sleep, or sitting... somewhere where I do a lot of thinking.

I was addicted enough that I built myself a spreadsheet. You can see it on the lefthand side of the video.

I started playing it again the other day, because I got a new Google Pixel phone (more on that another day). Accounts in Zen Koi are tied to device rather than your Google/Facebook account, even though you can link to Google and Facebook. So I had to request customer service ("petition" to those of you from the MMO crowd) transfer the old account to the new device. I had to do that one other time when I got a new tablet (transferred my old tablet account to my new tablet), and it took them several days to do so. By the time they did it, I'd moved on to another Android game (and that's the real reason I stopped playing Zen Koi!). This time, it took them less than 2 hours! It was awesome.

I do wish they had tied the game account to Google or Facebook (or even their own login!) rather than by device. But there's not much to do about that, and at least I can send myself fish via Facebook, since I happen to have a gaming Facebook account and my personal Facebook account.

Speaking of! If anyone wants to friend me on Facebook for Zen Koi, let me know in the comments below who you are. I'll be happy to add you over on my Facebook account.

Annnnnnnd I've also updated my spreadsheet!

I have it set up now so that if I have all 32 types of koi of a specific pattern, the name box automagically sets its background as green. Each koi has two sets of colors; the common and the rare. If I have 16 of one or 16 of the other, the background changes to orange. Not having 16 of either category will leave the background white.

The spreadsheet also shows the count of the koi in each color category, as well as how that koi pattern is obtained.

There are two tabs at the bottom. The first tab is for the "spawned" koi, that you find simply playing the game. The second is for the "Collector's" koi, which you have to purchase for pearls (the currency in the game--you find them while playing, and you can also buy them from the cash shop) once you unlock them. There's a subset of Collector's koi that you can only earn by purchasing from the cash shop or receiving as a gift from someone else. Don't worry! The person who's sending you the koi only has to spend 1 pearl to create you a copy of the fish to send to you for a common coloration, and 5 pearls for a rare color. Yep, you can clone your fish (though their stats max out at 7/7/7)!

If you become a Zen Koi addict like me, and want to easily track your koi so you can see what you want to breed and what you're missing, go here.

If you have a Google account, go up to File, go down to Make a copy... and make a copy! It will put your very own copy of the spreadsheet in your My Drive in Google. And yes, I just gave you a link to your own My Drive for people who are too lazy to type in drive.google.com!

If you don't have a Google account, you can still use the spreadsheet in some other spreadsheet program. Just follow the link here (same link as the previous link for all of you with Google accounts, no need to follow it if you have one!) and download the spreadsheet instead of making a copy. You can download it in your choice of formats, though I make no promises as to how it performs in other programs. Let me know if there are any issues and I'll see if I can troubleshoot them!

Again, if you want to trade fish with me, friend and message me on my Facebook account. Right now, of the Collector's Pearl Store fish, I can get you started with a common from the Nami (white/white). Or from the koi unlocked with Dragon Points, I can toss you a common Supoto (black/black), Konrei (red/orange or black/red), Īsutā (white/orange), or Sakura (white/red). I'm working through breeding and turning each spawned koi into a dragon before I work on the Collector's koi, which is why I have so few! (But I'm always happy to take a koi I don't have. I am a good koi home!)

Note that I don't usually accept random friend requests, so please send a message letting me know who you are/how I know you (if I do. If you're just here for the koi, say that too!), and that you're interested in trading koi in Zen Koi!
